lantern is an early-stage research project run from Norwich, UK. This page explains what this website and its waitlist collect. On this website we collect very little.
The walking app used in the Norwich field test records much more than this website does. If you are being invited to take part, read the participant notice before you accept.
If you enter your email address to join the waitlist, we store that address, which of the two forms on this page you used, and the date you signed up. Nothing else — no name, no IP address, no browsing history. We use it for one purpose: to send you a walk link when it is your turn in the Norwich field test.
Our lawful basis is your consent. You gave it by typing your address and pressing Join, and you can withdraw it at any time by asking us to delete it.
We delete waitlist addresses when the Norwich field test finishes, or twelve months after you signed up, whichever comes first.
To stop bots flooding the waitlist, we briefly store a scrambled, one-way fingerprint of the network address a signup came from. It cannot be turned back into your address, and it is never stored alongside your email.
We delete every fingerprint once it is more than 24 hours old. That clear-out runs each time someone joins the waitlist, and again once a day on a timer. So a fingerprint is normally gone within 24 hours, and within 48 hours at the outside.
This section is about this website only. The field-test app is different, and is covered in the participant notice.
If you agree when asked, we use PostHog to count page visits and waitlist signups, so we can tell whether this page is doing its job. On this website we do not record your screen and we do not capture what you type. If you decline, PostHog is never loaded at all.
You can change your mind at any time: . If you had accepted, this stops any further events from being sent. It cannot make your browser un-download code it already fetched earlier in this visit — it only stops that code from being used.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising.
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email privacy@itslantern.com and we will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
